BenSimon's Production Philosophy
"As a producer, my job is really quite simple: to help artists realize their vision. I'm not there to impose my own ideas, but rather to serve as a guide and facilitator throughout the creative process.
Everything begins with creating an environment where the artist feels comfortable, confident, and inspired. Once that foundation is established, the focus shifts to capturing great performances and achieving the best possible tone from the artist's primary instrument—whether that's their voice, guitar, piano, or any other instrument.
Of course, it all starts with a great song. Recording technology can enhance a performance, but it can't replace strong songwriting. As the saying goes, you can polish a turd all day long, but at the end of the day, it's still a polished turd. A great recording starts with a great song.
From there, we work together to capture the strongest performances possible using quality instruments, microphones, and recording techniques. We repeat that process until all of the necessary parts and performances have been recorded. Then we move into the mixing stage, where we shape the final production—selecting the best takes, refining arrangements, editing performances where needed, and applying EQ, dynamics, and effects to create a cohesive and emotionally compelling record.
At every step, my goal remains the same: help the artist create the very best version of their music."
