THE VILLAGE RECORDING STUDIO
BenSimon's Production Philosophy
I built The Village Recording Studio because I wanted a place where songs could breathe.
Over the years I realized that the best ideas don't arrive on command. They show up in quiet moments, late at night, in dreams, or when you're willing to slow down long enough to listen. I wanted a creative home where there was room to experiment, explore, and follow those ideas wherever they wanted to lead—without constantly watching the clock or feeling the pressure of the meter running.
For me, a recording studio isn't just a room full of microphones and equipment. It's a creative workshop where songs are discovered, nurtured, and brought to life.
I often describe the songwriting process as listening to "the committee in my head." Those ideas seem to arrive from somewhere beyond conscious thought, and my job is to recognize them, develop them, and help them become fully realized pieces of music. The Village Recording Studio was built to give those ideas—and the artists who bring them—the time and space they deserve.
As a producer, my role is actually quite simple.
I'm here to help artists realize their vision—not replace it with my own.
Everything begins with creating an environment where the artist feels relaxed, confident, and inspired. Once that foundation is in place, we focus on capturing honest performances and the best possible tone from whatever instrument is telling the story, whether that's a voice, a guitar, a piano, or a full band.
It all starts with a great song. Recording technology can enhance a performance, but it can't create great songwriting. As I like to say, "You can polish a turd all day long, but at the end of the day, it's still a polished turd." A great record always begins with a great song.
From there, we capture performances with care, using quality instruments, microphones, and recording techniques, always chasing the emotional truth of the music rather than technical perfection alone. Once every part has been recorded, we move into the mixing process, shaping the arrangement, selecting the strongest performances, and creating a sonic landscape that supports the song without overwhelming it.
Whether I'm producing my own music or helping another artist tell their story, my mission remains the same:
To create a place where creativity is free to flourish, where songs can become everything they were meant to be, and where artists leave with recordings that honestly represent who they are.
